10 Shows You Should Be Watching Right Now

1. Queen Sugar

Queen Sugar is an American Drama series that tells the story of the Bordelon siblings. The three siblings Nova, Charley, and Ralph Angel all live very different lives, but must come together following a tragedy in the family. This series takes you through the journey of a black family in Louisiana who is trying to overcome all the obstacles that life throws them. Every family has their ups and downs, but the Bordelon siblings must put their differences aside and support each other to run and maintain the family’s sugar cane farm.

2. Gotham

Gotham, now on its third season, is still full of surprises. Detective’s Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock are still trying to navigate through the corrupt city and apprehend the bad guys. It seems that each episode, a bad and bigger villain is terrorizing the city. Some villains even rise back up from the dead.  The writers do a good job of showing the struggle with being around people who are violent rule breakers, and not becoming that person yourself. The show also focuses on Bruce Wayne whose billionaire parents were murdered. If you are a fan of Batman, you might enjoy the show.

3. Scandal

This ABC drama couldn’t have been named anything else. From beginning to end you’ll constantly find yourself thinking “this is just scandalous”. Olivia Pope, a fixer, will give you nothing but life. She commands the attention of everyone in her presence. Although she can fix problems for everyone else, she doesn’t seem to be able to manage her own problems. Every time she makes progress, something comes up that reels her right back to her old ways. Maybe you can relate to this, you tell yourself you are going to break a habit, and then a week or two later you are doing it again. If so, it might be worth a shot to watch the show.

4. The Blacklist

If you’re into thrillers, then this is definitely the show to watch. Raymond Reddington, a fugitive, surrenders to the FBI on one condition. He will only work with the newly hired agent Liz Keen. One of the most interesting thing about watching the show is trying to figure out Reddington’s relationship to agent Keen. Together Reddington and the FBI task force will work together to put away criminals from the list he has compiled.  Being a criminal, you know that Reddington has his own motives for capturing other criminals, so to find out what they are start watching it.

5. How To Get Away With Murder

OMG. That is what you’ll constantly find yourself saying as you watch this show every Thursday. Shonda Rhimes does an amazing job of throwing the viewers off guard. You literally never know what is happening. Leading actor Viola Davis stars as Annalise Keating, a law professor who becomes entwined in a murder plot with five of her students. Unlike most shows you see the end results of the conflict, and then are showed how that end result came about.

6. This Is Us

This newly released comedy-drama series will melt your heart. The cast including Mandy Moore from “A Walk To Remember” remind us of what family is all about. The story line focuses on three siblings who all have the same birthday but are all different. This Is Us takes you on the individual journey of these siblings, their struggles and triumphs and how they all relate back to one another. You will laugh, you will cry and you will fall in love with the show.

7. Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is on its 13th season, and is still standing strong. The medical drama focuses on the lives of surgical interns, attending, and residents as they work towards their dreams of becoming veteran doctors at Seattle Grace hospital. They must do this all while trying to save their relationships and keep their sanity. Characters have come and go, but each one leaves a lasting imprint. This show will definitely make you shed some tears but it is totally worth it.

8. Quantico

Quantico takes you through a journey of young government recruits who are training to become special agents. Each recruit has their own story and their own secrets which led them to enlisting in the program. They must complete tasks to make it out on top. One of the recruits is suspected of organizing a major terrorist attack.

9. Shameless

One of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen, and probably the most ridiculous. The show focuses on Frank Gallagher, a single father of six kids who is an alcoholic. Their mother isn’t around either so the kids pretty much take care of themselves. Often you will find yourself wondering how these parents were ever allowed to have kids, and how they still have custody. It makes you wonder if there are kids who live in households like this, and if they do you just pray that they have the strength to survive. You will laugh and shake your head uncontrollably. Definitely the show to watch if you’re ever having a bad day.

10. Jane The Virgin

Jane The Virgin is amazing. The show is about Jane Villanueva, a … virgin. Jane believes in waiting until marriage to have sex. She lives with her mother and grandmother, and family tradition and heritage is something that is deeply rooted in the story line. There is no doubt about who Jane is and what she believes in and why. Jane is engaged to a detective named Michael, but when she goes for a routine visit to the clinic, she is accidentally inseminated. We get to see Jane’s journey as her whole future will be changed by this one mistake.
