10 Reasons Why Nerdy Girls Are Actually The Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Recently, there has been a flare up of “nerdy girls” online and IRL. That’s right, these chicks are coming out of hiding, and they come armed with a heavy arsenal of knowledge and skills. While there are many cons to being a nerdy girl (let’s just say your only friends are video game characters and you’re okay with that), there are so many pros, most of which are often overlooked.

1- We are almost always underestimated.

Coming from a girl who loves video games and certain movie series, we are almost always doubted on either our knowledge or capabilities. Yes, it is frustrating, but it can also be pretty darn awesome. Remember that guy who was testing your knowledge on LOTR? Look who just kicked his butt on QuizUp (who’s going from Elvenking to Wizard now)?

2- Guys suddenly have more interest in us.

No matter if it’s a friendship or romantic endeavor, there is always a little bit more interest once you lay down your gamertag in front of a dude.

3- We have more survival capabilities.

That new zombie game you just got? Totally worth- you now know how to use a straw as a weapon, and you can feel safe knowing when you’re in your english class you’d most likely be the only one to survive.

4- We know how to have a good time.

Instead of being glued to our phones and complaining about work, our down time is jam packed with head-shots and level-ups, is there any better way than to kill 12 hours?

5- Our reflexes are on point.

There’s a reason my new phone is crack-free, and it isn’t that shatter proof case either. Okay, it might be a little bit because of the case.

6- Our over achievement can actually payoff.

Forget getting an A in Physics, we can freaking top the charts in Smash. Mom would be so proud.

7- We gives less f*cks.

So what if our cat is mean to new visitors? We know in so many alternate universes, our cat could destroy trespassers in a split second…so we let it slide. It’s letting the little things go, and letting the bigger things (like world demotion) linger in the back of our mind…

8- We get a chance to shatter some dreams (and stereotypes).

Not only is the taste of sweet victory tens times better when it’s against this 10-year-old girl gamer doubter, but so is giving him the education that girls can kick butt too.

9- The friendships we make last much longer.

Because the majority of our friendships are based around games or awesome nerdy movies (or cultures if you get that far into it…), they tend to stick around a bit longer than normal relationships. The foundation of our friendship is based on your mutual love for competition, details of graphics, and our bond over how we both think that series really should have ended. And that can last a lifetime.

10- We are more in touch with who we are.

No one knows better than we do, how you would react to an alien attack. We know your anger threshold, and we also know when to let things go. Being nerdy makes you who you are, and that is freaking awesome.
