We Need More People in this World Like Meghan Markle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

In the last month or so, surely many of you, have heard the news of Prince Harry and wife, Meghan Markle’s, decision to leave their royal duties behind and pursue a life free from paparazzi following their every move and the scrutiny of other members of the royal family.

I remember the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle like it was yesterday. It was so inspiring on many levels to see a woman like her, who had no ties to British royalty or the country itself, step into a life that asks so much. With an African-American mother and a white father, she was the first bi-racial women to enter into a family with royal blood.

While the odds were already stacked up against her from the beginning, Meghan made a name for herself and changed the tune as to what it meant to be “royalty”. She broke rules, questioned practices and authority, resulting in many pondering if she was fit to be a member of the royal family.

I think we need more people in the world like Meghan Markle. She is strong, outspoken, confident, charitable and oh yeah, pretty beautiful too — just to name a few of her top qualities. Meghan has done many things in her short time married to Prince Harry, that have reshaped what it means to be “royal”. She has inspired so many people along the way.

As the first bi-racial women to enter British royalty, she has shown young women that look like her all around the world, that truly anything is possible. She has redefined what a fairytale looks like in so many ways. Personally, I think it was long overdue for some diversity to be present in the monarchy, so who better than Miss Meghan Markle herself to be the first representation of that.

While I guess now you could say she is no longer British Royalty, in her personal life she continues to make a difference in the lives of others. Meghan has a history of being involved in charity work that benefit causes near and dear to her heart. I believe that since she is now free from any royal duties, she’ll be able to easily pursue the life she wants to live. I speak with confidence when I say that Meghan Markle, the former Duchess of Sussex, has a successful life ahead of her.
