In honor of Black History Month, the UC Davis Women’s Resources & Research Center will be hosting events throughout the month of February regarding Black History and Culture. They’ve already hosted events like ‘Black Fashion & Jewelry,’ which combined making jewelry and telling stories of resistance. The previous week, they also hosted a ‘Black Women and Activism: Exploring History through Zine Making’ talk, where they made zines while discussing Black women and activism. This week’s event is called Black Fem/me Magic week. And in the following week,s more exciting events are to come!
The UC Davis Women’s Resources & Research Center (UCDWRRC) is also participating in Black Futures’ Month, which is honoring the history and futures inherent within black history, “as a reminder that our past does not define us, but informs the future we create” (UCDWRRC). Their theme for this year is ‘Feeding the Soul and Fueling the Future”. With other on-campus organizations working together, they host special events and bring awareness. Their theme for this year stems from the importance of caring for your communities while nurturing your own energy and spirits and working towards goals for the future that will carry you forward.
They focus on drawing strength from the past reliance, wisdom and love shown. They hope to bring those same characteristics to the future and forward. The Women’s Resources & Resource Center and other organizations on campus are honoring Black History Month through these events and raising awareness, so don’t be shy and come along! All are welcome!
