If you are able to vote and live in California, a ballot is probably sitting in your mailbox or you have already received it. Well, this piece of paper is important to read and understand. It is much more important than your daily mail; it is something that can determine change during this current difficult administration. Proposition 50 is a demand for the government to govern for the people, as the government works directly for its citizens, not the other way around. People have been heavily affected by the current state we are living in, so much so that many have begun to regret their lack of research before voting in the past presidential election. Well, this November 4th was a chance to make a change and it worked (Proposition 50 passed).
Unfortunately, we are living in a country where politics are strongly competitive and with very conflicting morals, as well as different priorities. Therefore, this is election was to stop a political party from taking people’s health care, raising living costs,\ and spreading more violent treatment through discrimination. Discrimination has many different kinds of negative effects. At this point people’s lives are at risk with this current administration. Proposition 50 is a temporary action that would begin in the year 2026. The purpose being the next election, Texas has gained five seats more in the United States House of Representatives. In addition, Proposition 50 would have new lines for congressional districts, which would make the five seats from Texas mentioned previously ineffective.
This is not a situation where we have to avoid unfortunate situations. We are currently living in a situation where grocery shopping feels like luxury shopping. People are losing their insurance and jobs. This is not a pro-life situation, because people are suffering. Life is being taken away from so many people in this country. Pro-life should mean keeping people fed with jobs.
Unfortunately, programs for children with disabilities are being canceled. It is easy to say that sentence, but the real story about this is families being affected. As social media users, we are able to witness how the current administration affects families and its negative impact. For instance, how would you feel if you were a single parent? You have a beautiful child that requires support from these programs. You have to attend doctor appointments, feed, bathe, and raise your child. All of a sudden, the programs you rely on are being taken away. Now you have to add another job to your to-do list. Well, to attend work, you need day care, which is extremely expensive. The parent is now responsible for rent, amenities, food, hygiene products, transportation, day care and the overall medical bills. Medical bills are also expensive. With that, you also have to consider insurance and more bills that we might not have in mind at this moment.
We all sometimes think that this can not happen to us. But where would empathy and having feelings exist? The world’s life works in mysterious ways. There should not be space for hate, but for improvement and that is something the government should focus on. Although political parties may not be perfect, at this point in life you have to choose the political party that you can depend on. Someone you want to be safe around.
