Mother’s Day is right around the corner, so it’s about time to start thinking about all of the reasons why we are thankful for our moms. Although the holiday is only celebrated once a year, we should be taking the time to appreciate our moms every single day. Moms do more for us than we think, and a lot of the work happens behind the scenes. I can’t count the times that my clothes were mysteriously clean, my room all of a sudden tidy, and my lunch already prepped for me. While all of these things are kind gestures that our moms perform, the kindest thing that they do for us is constantly care and worry about us. Everything our moms do is out of love for us, and it is very important to remember to take time to appreciate her.

From elementary school all the way through high school, I constantly spent time with my mom. I was with her every single day, and I overlooked a lot of the amazing things she did for me. Because it was so routine to have my mom around, I didn’t always take time to thank her for all that she did for me, or tell her how appreciative I was for all of her hard work. Once I got to college and started living in the dorms, I began to realize truly how much work my mom does for me, and every time I think about it, I become more and more amazed at and thankful for her. Despite having a full-time job, she always finds the time to help me with my homework, make sure my concert and prom dresses get altered and cleaned, and host my friends when they come over.

My mom has grown to be my best friend. I enjoy updating her on the new things going on in my life, gossiping with her about our favorite TV shows, and going home on the weekends to go shopping with her. Despite not living at home anymore, my mom still texts and calls me every single day. The summer before college, I told her that I would be busy often and may not have time to call her or respond to her text messages. Today, I am so grateful to be able to call her at least once a day and to receive text messages about how her day is going. I also try to thank her more often for all that she does. Taking a little bit of time often to tell her that I appreciate her makes her day. It is such a simple thing, but we should all be thanking our moms some more. They are surely going to appreciate it. Image source: Pexels

Take some time to think about all of the things your mom does for you. And, while you’re at it, think about when you last thanked her. It is so easy to think that our moms are being too protective or are intruding into our personal lives, but we have to remember that they simply want to keep up with us. They want to know who we are hanging out with, what we are doing today, and how our classes are going because they want to make sure that we are living good and happy lives. All that our moms do is out of their love for us, and we can never let ourselves forget this. This Mother’s Day, step back and take time to truly appreciate everything about your mom, and tell her how thankful you are for her. You can tell her in person, over the phone, or you can write her a beautifully handwritten note and send it her way. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the hardworking, wonderful moms out there. You are appreciated!
