This summer I am looking forward to reading more books and watching more movies before school starts back up. I have always loved reading and it is one of my favorite things to do, but recently I haven’t been dedicating any of my time to reading outside of school. Movies are also a little mini-escape for me because I get so invested in a storyline or the characters. Reading is something that has always calmed me down when I am stressed or upset because it just takes over my entire mind and makes me forget for a while. I get invested in books and sometimes if I am reading a really good one I cry while reading.
Recently, I have been wanting to read more classics but have no idea where to start. One of my peers in my class actually recommended that I get a poster that has a list of different novels that people should read within their lifetime. I found one that you can scratch the square off to reveal the book cover after you have finished reading one, and I am super excited to start scratching off as many books as possible. After getting it I realized I have already read twelve out of the hundred books that were listed. Some of the books that I am most excited to start reading are Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and George Orwell’s novels Animal Farm and 1984. I know that everyone is obsessed with Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and the movie adaptation with Kiera Knightley, but I have put off watching it in order to read the book first. I want to compare the book to the movie and see which one I like better. I have also been saving a bunch of TikTok videos that have various book recommendations so that I can read more.Â
After a stressful year with school and the pandemic, I am looking forward to having a fun summer where I have the time to do my hobbies and go on other adventures with friends.
