Netflix Shows to Distract Yourself from Spring Quarter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Just a little over 10 weeks until the sweet, sweet embrace of summer freedom is upon us. To get you through these last couple midterms, essays, and finals- these are some of my favorite things on Netflix that have helped me either unwind from school stress, or learn something new.

1. The Great British Baking Show

This show is unparallel in that it gives me all the warm feelings when watching it. It’s a competition show of amateur bakers in Britain who have come together to create some delicious looking treats. Americans, be prepared to be alarmed with how nice people are to each other on British reality shows. Benefits of watching this show include you might actually learn a thing or two about the kitchen and become inspired to bake yourself.

2. Ali Wong: Baby Cobra                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           A Netflix special featuring Ali Wong had me in stitches the entire time. Also major props for her awesome jokes that she nailed while 7 months pregnant. I had never heard of her, but became immediately obsessed with her special because of her extreme unapologetic bluntness. She’s something different; give it a chance.

3. Baby Behind Bars

I blame this entirely on Orange is the New Black, because ever since then I have had a fascination with America’s prison system and how it works. This particular documentary features pregnant women who are giving birth during their prison sentences, and a new program that allows the women to stay with their babies. Pretty fascinating, and definitely worth looking into.

4. Bo Burnham: Make Happy

Another Netflix comedy special, but it might have you thinking more than actually laughing. Bo is kind of a genius, and he combines music, the audience, and punchy jokes to present a pretty heartfelt special. He’s pretty self-deprecating, but isn’t that what our generation is all about?

Enjoy all of these wonderful ways to procrastinate!
