Last Minute Group Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Every year, Halloween comes around and the costume craze begins. TikTok is flooded with the trendiest, cutest costumes, Halloween stores start opening up, and yet I always end up leaving my costume to the last minute. Fortunately, I’m accompanied by the rest of my friends who also slacked off on getting a costume in time. And of course, we decide to collectively be frantic and do a group costume. But, finding a group costume for a group any larger than two can often be difficult, so I have compiled a list of some of my favorite group Halloween costume ideas that can work for people in the group:

1. Vampires/Witches

I know, I know. It’s basic. But hear me out. Sometimes, we get lost in trying to make the cutest, sexiest, or most original costume, and we forget about the classics! I had been a vampire and witch as a kid, but we are in our hot girl eras! Being a vampire or witch would only require your best all-black outfit, some fangs or a witch hat, and you’re done! Tell me that isn’t the easiest costume!

2. Characters from the Kingdom of Far, Far Away

If you’ve seen Shrek you know what I’m talking about. Shrek may not be the most aesthetically pleasing costume, but think about all of the side characters in that movie! All the characters from Far, Far Away are some of our favorite fairytale characters and would make one hell of a costume! Three Blind Mice, Pinocchio, the Big Bad Wolf, Fairy Godmother, and so many more! This costume allows you to make this an individual costume, but also a group costume with as many people as you want!

3. Cheetah Girls

Cheetah Girls is a throwback for us all and a quick DIY costume. Have each member of your group take a different color and wear a cheetah print headband of their color with matching sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and a tank top! And if you really are struggling to find colored cheetah print, be cheetah girls, and wear all cheetah print! Which leads me to my next costume idea…

4. Safari/Zoo

Animals are always so easy to do because all you really need are matching ears and a little bit of makeup. Plus, you can make this as big or small of a group as you want. A cat, lion, giraffe, zebra, and the list goes on! And your outfit can really be whatever you want it to be as long as it matches the colors of your animal. This costume is definitely a low-budget, last-minute costume that can turn out super cute fast!

5. Rhyming Costumes

Lastly, I have got to add one of TikTok’s latest trends to this list — rhyming pairs for costumes. TikTok has come up with quite a few costume ideas over the past couple of years, but this one is probably the most unique and most flexible. In pairs or in groups, choose any two words that rhyme and dress as that word. For example, Legally Blonde and James Bond could be a rhyming pair where each of your dresses is one of the two. Grease and police, DJ and PJs, rat and frat, etc. are all possible rhyming costumes! Zero cohesion is needed, which is sometimes hard to do with a group last minute.

I hope these costume ideas help you out the week of Halloween as you stress-order costumes and search through all the sold-out Halloween costume aisles! And have a very Happy Halloween :)
