How to Use Your ‘Going-Out’ Clothes for the Office

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

I have bought a good amount of clothes throughout my college career that work best for “going out.” I am graduating this year and I do not want to waste my perfectly cute clothes by having them sit in the back of my closet. Assuming I will probably need work-appropriate clothes, a lot of my “funk-night-fits” won’t work in a professional setting. This is not to say that women need to dress conservatively to be professional, but many workplaces do require and expect a certain look. I looked through my closet to see how I could transform some of my outfits into work clothes. Here are some ideas that would be best in a business casual workplace setting.

1. Bodysuits

These are pretty easy to make workplace ready because a camisole works great under lower cut ones. Plus, if you pair them with a blazer or cardigan they transform into professional looking material.

2. Crop Tops

Depending on how short these are, crop tops look great tucked into high waisted pants (jeans or slacks) or a longer skirt.

3. Plunging Necks

A camisole can easily be put under low cut rompers, shirts, and dresses. Again, if you add a blazer or a jacket it can make your outfit look more professional.

4. Skirts and Dresses

Popping on a pair of tights under short dresses and skirts can look great in the workplace. Also, adding an overcoat over these looks dresses them up even more.

These are just suggestions of course. Make sure to check in with your workplace to see what they prefer and if you are able, work at places that fit your style and comfort levels!
