How I’m Going to Make Spring Quarter My B!#ch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Winter quarter kicked my butt. But after a thrilling spring break of lying on my couch, eating burritos, and self-reflecting, I have decided that spring quarter is going to be my BEST quarter. I am going to own it, work it, SLAY it, and here’s how:

1. Surround myself with good, caring, supportive people

I generally try to surround myself with genuine and caring people, but I am going to make an extra effort to do it this quarter. Being around people who boost my happiness and my productivity makes me feel like I am capable of doing great things and being a better person. There’s something refreshing and exciting about supporting others that support you back; it forms a mutual love that keeps both parties happy. I also want to make more friends and branch out.

2. Not procrastinate (we’ll see…)

The gloom of winter quarter made me want to drink my weight in tea and binge Parenthood. I could not read philosophy, write a paper, or study for a test until one in the morning. Although a total cliché, I really am going to try and spread out my work throughout the day and plan times to do work. I know I will still procrastinate because it’s a college essential, but I am going to be more determined to not saving everything until the last minute. Honestly, I’m so grateful that The Bachelor is over because I definitely prioritized it over school.

3. Capitalize on the nice weather

It is so easy to lock myself in my room and want to nap after a long day of class, but the spring weather (sans pollen) and the floral scents of spring make me so happy, and I should take advantage of this. I am going to try and study outside, sit on the quad instead of inside on my breaks from class, and ride my bike more. The weather boosts my mood, and if I take advantage of the sunshine, my happiness is sure to boost my productivity level, right?

4. Treat myself

I spent winter quarter living in perpetual stress, and I didn’t allow myself much fun, especially during the week. This quarter, I’m going to allow myself to get Yoloberry once a week or go to cheap movie nights on Tuesday, so I can have something to look forward to on the days that are particularly draining. Here’s to hoping that planning some fun outings will motivate me to get work done, boost my mood, and help me fully engage in the joy of Davis springtime.

We are going to own this quarter. Work hard, surround yourself with love, plan some fun, and go outside, for crying out loud. We’re destined for greatness, and we deserve it.
