Living in Davis can get pretty boring sometimes. Sure, you can go downtown and roam around on the weekends, but that’s usually as fun as it gets. Luckily, there are a few ways to add a little excitement to this small city:

1.     Find things you like to do

Whether you’re very active and love playing sports, or you just like to chill and make some music with friends, figure out what you’re really passionate about. This can help you release some of that pent up stress from school.  It’s also a great way to express yourself and do something that you genuinely enjoy. Other fun ideas include experimenting with art, learning to play an instrument, watching YouTube tutorials, or knitting a scarf. Pursue what you already love or try something new!

2.     Find others who like the same things

There are about 35,000 students enrolled at UC Davis, which means there are a lot of opportunities to connect with people who share your interests. Although our huge campus and student body can be overwhelming at times, there are many resources that you can utilize to meet new people! There are over 600 clubs and organizations, so try searching for one that best suits your interests. An extensive list can be found at http://ucdavis.orgsync.com/search. These clubs range from academic to ethnic/cultural groups.

3.     Spend time with people

Finding the right club is half the battle. You also have to connect with others in the group. Use the group’s shared interests to your advantage! Strike up a conversation with someone in the club, and just start talking about why you joined the club or how the topic interests you. If you guys click, see if they want to get lunch at the MU. If you go out of your way to make a new friend, something great can come from it.

My name is Rojan Zarei and I am a second year Managerial Economics major at UC Davis. I've found a passion in getting to know who I am, learning about life, and sharing that with others! What better way to do that than write about what I've learned so others can hopefully benefit from it as well!
