College can be so overwhelming, with constant assignments, anxiety-inducing exams, trying to have a social life and trying to balance life and school. It is no wonder that sometimes you feel like your head is about to explode. This is why adopting cats with your friends is literally one of the greatest and most rewarding things that you can possibly do. Not only do they provide you with comfort and companionship, but they also enable you to bond with your friends on a different level. And, having a pet teaches you important life skills that will stay with you long after college.

Emotional Support

First of all, having a foster cat at college is extremely helpful in increasing one’s level of mental well-being. Interacting with an animals helps decrease the levels of stress, anxiety, and loneliness which is so prevalent among all students. For me and my friends, our lives have become much more happier and fulfilling. Coming home after a long exhausting day and being able to see your cats, provides so much solace and emotional support. Taking care of them together has brought us even closer—we have fun watching their goofy behavior, helping each other through late-night study sessions with our cats snuggled beside us, and feeling good knowing we’re giving them a safe place to stay. These cats have brought so much happiness into our home, and fostering has made college life a lot more fun and rewarding.

Responsibility

Fostering also teaches responsibility in a way that is both manageable and rewarding. Caring for a cat involves feeding, cleaning, and keeping the animal safe–all things which help the students learn life skills. While this may be somewhat difficult, especially with academic responsibilities, fostering with friends is considerably easier since the responsibility is divided; thus, the load lightens. This teamwork will hence enable supporting each other while ensuring the cat receives its due care. Unlike adoption, it is only temporary; therefore, fostering is an excellent avenue to get the feel of owning a pet without the hassles of what to do after graduation.

Teamwork

Beyond the mental benefits, cat fostering enhances friendships and teamwork. Having to share the duties of feeding, cleaning, and playing with the cat makes roommates or friends unite around the activity. This teaches a lot of helpful life skills such as communication, time management, and compromise. Divided duties guarantee that no single person has to bear the responsibility and that the pet care is shared and cared for, not a burden.

Kindness

Last but not least, fostering is an act of kindness to the animals in need. Many shelters are overpopulated, and fostering is a way to temporarily take animals in until they find their permanent owners. In return, by opening up their home to foster animals, college students get the fun of having pets while serving a very crucial role in saving lives. That’s a win-win situation where the student gets an adorable companion, and the cat gets the love and care needed before finding a home.

In the end, taking care of a foster cat with friends in college is probably among the best decisions: it provides benefits including emotional support, solidification of friendships, and a fulfilling yet flexible learning experience. Besides the joy from caring for a cat with friends, students will contribute to a noble cause–helping an animal in need. For those looking to add love, companionship, and shared responsibility to their college experience, fostering a cat is the perfect solution!
