Sometimes, while hanging out with friends, it can be tempting during a lull in conversation to reach for a phone or press play on a remote. Though it is easy to be sidetracked by devices, it is important to socialize with friends free from the distractions presented by technology. It’s important to devote time to meaningful interactions with friends to strengthen relationships, as well as creating lasting memories. One fun way to combat short attention spans is hosting a crafting session for friends will encourage creativity as opposed to doomscrolling. Here are a few simple, screen-free activities that will stave off boredom while spending quality time with friends:

  1. Moodboards

Collaging images into a visually appealing work of art, moodboards serve as a great way to express interests and inspirations. A moodboard making party is an easy to plan activity that requires minimal supplies and set-up. While the addition of stickers and custom photo prints make for aesthetically pleasing results, the essential materials are glue sticks, magazines, scissors and construction paper. Magazines can often be found at thrift stores and library sales for less than a dollar, making this a very budget friendly craft. This project is fantastic for starting conversations about participants’ current obsessions.

  1. DIY Punch Cards

A creative way to keep track of goals, DIY punch cards are another fun project to make with friends. The only necessary supplies for this craft are scissors, markers and construction paper cut into small, card-sized rectangles. Each person writes down a goal on a card and then draws several symbols that they can mark off as they become closer to fulfilling that objective. Not only is this activity a great way to set intentions for the near future, but it gets guests to talk about their aspirations!

  1. Memory Boxes

Similar to a time capsule, a memory box is a festive method of storing sentimental items. Many craft stores sell decorative boxes that can be used for this activity, however, any lidded box will work as well. This craft is very versatile in terms of the supplies used for personalization. For instance, rhinestones, lace, paint and stickers would all be charming decorations for the exterior of a memory box. The end result is a customized home for treasured possessions such as birthday cards, letters and photographs.

  1. Personal Pizzas

While making personal pizzas may not be a traditional arts and crafts project, this activity will definitely allow for some out of the box thinking! For instance, selecting different toppings and forming the dough into fun shapes encourages guests to express their creativity through their pizzas. Most grocery stores carry the required ingredients: premade dough, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and any desired toppings. This activity allows participants to bond while making the pizzas, while also giving them a delicious snack to enjoy together afterwards.

Though planning a night-in for friends may seem like a daunting task, this list provides several examples of fun and budget friendly activities. Whether you are looking to host a large gathering or just a few close friends, these projects will allow participants to spend quality time together without the risk of losing interest. Hopefully these ideas give you the inspiration needed to plan a get-together to remember!
