7 Essential Items You Need for Picnic Day 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Spring has sprung, and that means Picnic Day 2016 at UC Davis is finally here! It’s the time of year when the UC Davis campus becomes an open house and is overrun with outdoor and indoor activities. Here are some essentials you will need to survive this year’s Picnic Day, aka UC Davis’s Coachella.

1. Reusable water bottle.

We are, after all, an eco-friendly university with multiple water refill stations. It is very important to hydrate yourself throughout the day as the weather on Picnic Day tends to be very hot. And who wants to overpay for bottled water anyways?

2. Sunglasses

Just because you’re sweating from walking around campus in the heat doesn’t mean you can’t still look cool. Sunglasses will protect your eyes from that harsh sun and will keep you looking chill no matter the time of day.

3. Sunscreen

Let’s be real. You probably don’t want to look sunburnt in all your Snapchat pictures. Using sunscreen will not only prevent skin cancer, but also prevent you from fashioning a sunburn for the rest of the week.

4. Hat

A hat will not only add a twist to your outfit, but will protect your face from the harsh sun’s rays. It will come in handy if you are too lazy to reapply your sunscreen on your face or don’t want to mess up your makeup.

5. DIY Picnic Blanket

Whether it is an outdoor blanket or even a yoga mat, any type of blanket would be nice to have for chilling, having some food with your friends on the quad or arboretum, and observing the Picnic Day festivities.

6. Portable phone charger

You will probably burn through your phone’s battery pretty quick from all the Snaps and photos you will be taking. Don’t cut your photographic memories; bring a portable phone charger.

7. Comfortable shoes

The last thing you want to be wearing on Picnic day are uncomfortable shoes. Avoid the pain and mental complaining and enjoy walking around campus by wearing shoes with support.

With all these tips in mind, you are ready to conquer Picnic Day 2016. Let’s go!
