The season of spring has sprung onto us all like a pollenated jack-in-the-box. If this is your first year at Davis, be warned: you’re about to experience allergies like you never have before. Here are some tips for how to make sure your eyes aren’t as red as rubies (which sounds magnificent, but will itch like no other) and that your nose isn’t running like the waterfalls of Yosemite (again, it sounds beautiful, but it will not be so).

1. Stock up on NON-DROWSY allergy pills

Do not make the fatal mistake of getting not non-drowsy pills. This will land you into fits of snoring throughout your morning classes, which the professors seem to think is “distracting.” I recommend getting the 24-hour pills, and then just take one each morning before you head out.

2. Get those eye drops locked and loaded

Clear Eyes is a great brand, but any small bottle of anti-itchy elixir shall do. Hopefully, you’re able to aim it into your eye on the first try by June!

3. Make sure those tissues are handy in your backpack

You get a little dribble nose going in class? Not to worry, and there’s no need to sprint out of class to make it to the bathroom before that fatal snot drop, or “snop.” Simply pack an entire tissue box in your backpack! This should be enough to get you through about one week.

4. Bike with sunglasses on

“Who’s that cool gal sporting the sunnies on her way to class?” It’s you, and they’ll think that you’re a fashion icon even though you’re just blocking an array of pollen from getting in your corneas. This is your time to look like Paris Hilton as you strut into Wellman, when you’re really James Bond for having this secret weapon in your arsenal.

5. Just don’t leave your room

Honestly, even if you commit to all of these preventative strategies, you’re still probably going to experience some allergy symptoms. The best thing to do is to just marinate in your room for an entire quarter, and then emerge in the fall so you can start over.

With these tips, you’re sure to dominate the pollen and nature dust all around us.
