5 Ways to Connect at UC Davis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Everyone’s told you that getting involved in activities is the best way to make friends in college, but with over 650 clubs to choose from, joining anything can seem daunting. As intimidating as it may be, these 5 on campus organizations have great reputations that guarantee a wonderful year with opportunities to make life-long friends.

First, do you love school spirit and want to attend sporting events and more? These next two groups are right for you:

1. Aggie Pack

If you are a devoted sports fan, or just enjoy hanging around excited and passionate people, Aggie Pack is the way to go. They will welcome you with open arms and create a lot of opportunities to get free stuff. Who doesn’t love free stuff?

2. Band-Uh

Band-Uh is at every football and basketball game. They’re also a huge part of Davis’ annual Picnic Day. They’re the most energetic musical group, and they welcome people of all skill levels. If you can’t play an instrument, Band-Uh will teach you!

Okay, so maybe sporting events and music aren’t your thing. If you still want to meet students who share your interests, these organizations will make you feel right at home!

3. Cultural Organizations

Davis’ cultural organizations provide so many opportunities to connect with people of your heritage. You can go on retreats, hold leadership positions, and make new friends. If you miss your culture’s food and traditions, then this is an excellent way to get back to your roots.

4. LGBTQIA Resource Center

This space, like many of the cultural clubs you’ll find on campus, is committed to providing an open and inclusive community. It challenges sexism, cis-sexism, genderism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and heterosexism. The Resource Center hosts games, activities, and events for students to unwind, relax, and just feel comfortable with each other.

Want to stay active?

5. Intramural Sports

Intramural sports are a smart way to continue playing your favorite sports (basketball, soccer, softball, etc.), or even try something totally different (Quidditch!). There’s nothing quite like team spirit!

Don’t spend all of your college years studying. Find an organization that interests you, and get involved!
