5 Reasons Wonder Woman Is the Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

If you asked me to select the greatest fictional idol that I had during my childhood, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell you that Wonder Woman was my everything. From comic books to the Justice League animated series on Cartoon Network, there were ample opportunities to see just why a character like Diana Prince is a prime role model for young ladies everywhere.  With her new film on the horizon, I think it is fair to talk about what is so great about Wonder Woman.

1. She’s not frail

Diana is strong. Obviously, Wonder Woman has super strength. However, when I say strong, I am not referencing her vast abilities. I want to talk about her build. Wonder Woman is stated by several DC encyclopedias and sources to be about 6’0 tall. She is muscular and tall. In a world of slim-figured Barbies and princesses who often failed to represent larger women, I distinctly remember feeling some sort of connection to the character when I would read about her size and dimensions.

2. She doesn’t let the men let her feel like she is lesser

In the Justice League animated series, there was a plot in which Wonder Woman and Batman alluded to having feelings for each other, but Batman stated that it could never work because people would be after her if she had a connection to him. Wonder Woman promptly crushed a stone gargoyle with one of her bare hands, as if to say, “I can f—ing handle myself, Bruce. One of us has powers and it isn’t the boy prancing around dressed like a flying rodent or whatever.” She knows that she is strong, worthy, and able to take care of herself. These are traits that I admire.

3. She has an unbreakable dedication to her friends and family

From Themyscira to the Justice League, Wonder Woman has an unshakeable love for her communities. When it comes to her sisters at home, she works to protect them and professes peace and care to all of them. She is never selfish in her time fighting alongside the other superheroes in the Justice League. She is always there for others, even if it means that she doesn’t get a lot of time for herself. She’d be a rocking best friend.

4. She’s a princess

Look, I love Disney. I love Disney an unhealthy amount, but my favorite princess has got to be this Amazonian Princess. When Cinderella’s accessories can fend off bullets during wars, then I might change my mind. No one can match Diana in strength, honor, wisdom, and courage. These are traits that I would want my daughter to see in a princess and try to emulate.

5. She’s a literal goddess of war and socked it to the god of war, Ares

In the New 52 reboot in the comics, it is revealed that Diana spent a year of her life with Ares as her mentor. However, when Ares asks her to kill a minotaur, Diana says heck no because she believes in mercy. This leads to her being able to kill Ares later when she is fighting her evil half-brother, allowing her to take over as war goddess.

Wonder Woman is fantastic in so many ways and her new movie will hopefully prove to the world just how cool this goddess is!
