5 Reasons Why My Best Friend Told Me to Transfer to Davis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

As a transfer coming into Davis, I’m excited about plenty of things. My best friend helped convince me to come here, and here are five of the reasons why I decided to come!

1. Food, food, the glorious food!

So, before visiting Davis, there was one very important question that I needed answered.

“Where’s the closest Chipotle?”

My best friend, AKA five-star rated food connoisseur and burrito aficionado informed me that Chipotle is, in fact, not life.

It wasn’t until I took my first bite of an Ali Baba’s breakfast burrito that I was reminded, yet again, that she is always right. With Ali Baba’s, Guad’s, Thai Canteen, Mikuni, all the poke a girl could want, I’d say my appetite is all set for the year.

2. The bikes

“So, Sarah, you have to learn how to ride a bike…”

“A bike?! Say again?”

Not only have I been tirelessly working on my bike riding skills all summer (don’t worry, I’m pretty sure I could take on the Tour de France any day now), I think I’ll have the confidence to tackle the infamous bike circles, squirrels, and everything else!

3. The weather and the cows

There is one thing that I am looking forward to most this fall. Enjoying life without the chronic state of torrential downpour otherwise known as Seattle is up there on my list. In packing for school, there were three things the best friend bought me for my birthday — sunscreen, an endless supply of allergy pills, and nose plugs. Don’t worry, I’ve been told about the cows.. MOOOOOO!

‘Nuff said. I’m as prepared for the heat, cold, and cows as I’ll ever be… I hope…

4. The people

Now, that is what my future is going to look like. It’s so bright, I am going to need shades. In just a few days, I am on the hunt to find my people, but who’s counting? I’ve been told by many that everyone at Davis is “weirdly nice.” I am way to excited for that! I pledged a sorority in Seattle and it wasn’t my thing, so I am hopeful that Davis’ chill vibe is.

5. The knowledge

I was recently reminded that I’m going to school to learn stuff. Wait, what?

All jokes aside, these next two years will be full of new friends, countless memories, and of course an unhealthy relationship with Chipotle; but, I am more than confident in the quality of education I will receive at UC Davis. Its academic reputation is stellar. The professors are highly regarded by their students and others in the community.

My relaxing and fabulous summer is winding down and I have been wholly enjoying my daily binge of Gossip Girl probably a bit too much. While I am sad to say goodbye to this incredibly entertaining lifestyle, I am very excited to start learning again.

P.S. Let me know if you want to be best friends with my best friend. She’s the bee’s knees!
