5 Movies to Watch (or Rewatch) This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Although I’m perfectly happy to watch Christmas movies any time of the year, I understand that not everyone is quite as ready to commit to the holiday cheer until after Thanksgiving. If winter hasn’t yet arrived for you and you’re on the hunt for a cozy, autumnal film that’ll warm your heart as the temperature begins to dip in Davis, consider watching — or rewatching — some of these.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Okay, so there’s “Christmas” in the title. But come on — it’s not quite a Halloween movie nor a Christmas movie, making this the perfect in-between flick. Find out what happens when the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington of Halloween Town, decides to celebrate Christmas for a change.

2. You’ve Got Mail

“Don’t you love New York in the fall?” Joe Fox asks Kathleen Kelly over email. While this movie follows these two characters and their love story throughout all seasons in New York, it begins in the fall — and there’s definitely a lot of love for the charm of the city in autumn months.

3. Legally Blonde

I love this movie all year round, but it’s especially perfect for fall. Elle comes into her own and learns just how amazing she is while at Harvard Law during a New England autumn.

4. Fantastic Mr. Fox

This movie is based on a book by the eccentric yet loveable Roald Dahl, and the hazy, golden color scheme will definitely make you feel as if you’re in an everlasting autumn. It’s a Wes Anderson movie, so you KNOW the visuals will be good.

5. The Princess Bride

If you catch a cold during these chilly autumn months, cuddle up with The Princess Bride. It all starts with a grandfather reading an enchanting story to his grandson, who is sick in bed and in need of cheering up.
