4 Things to Do with Your Best Friend This Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

One of my favorite YouTubers is Lilly Singh, a.k.a. Superwoman. She is smart, insightful, and funny, which shines through in her videos. Recently, I watched her video “Signs of a Good Best Friend,” and, as usual, I was laughing within seconds.

I completely agree with Lilly’s assessment on how a best friend will back you up no matter what and not judge you for your mistakes. As I thought of my friends, I realized that I have made some great friends here in Davis and want to honor them.

I acknowledge that all friendships and people are different, so the things friends do worldwide may differ. Nonetheless, I have tried to make a list of options for how to share quality friendship time. Shared experiences are the base of a friendship, so don’t skimp on them this time. And by spending time with friends, you relieve some of that midterm stress!

1. Watch movies together

Nothing is better than watching a mutually-loved movie or sharing new movies with a friend over a bag of popcorn and box of candy. You can show off your knowledge of the movie lines, talk about the importance of certain themes, or gush over how attractive the characters are. This can also be applied to books, cartoons, Manga, TV shows, and plays.

2. Eat together or cook a meal

Everyone needs food, so why not share your favorites with your friends? You may discover that you have even more in common. Eating with friends is so common that this does not really need to be mentioned, but it’s still important to talk about food bonding.

For me, food is more than a biological need, it is a passion. It is a way for me to tell the person that I am cooking for that I love them. After all, it takes time, money, and effort to find recipes, shop, and prepare the food (not to mention, do the dishes!). I love to show my appreciation for friends by cooking for them. Just ask me for food, and I will happily provide.

3. Go to an improv show

This suggestion is similar to watching movies; however, in college, there are many opportunities to attend live shows which are not to be missed. Laughter is a key ingredient of friendship, and improv shows are a great way to meet or hang with friends. Improv shows are always unique and a great conversation topic for later hang times!

4. Go shopping

Whether for food, clothes, or books, shopping is a way to bond with your bestie! You can learn more about each other as you chat and recommend your favorites to each other. It also makes being an adult less lonely. Two weeks ago, my best friends and I spent the day together. By the end we were starving, so we went grocery shopping. I never realized how fun it would be. We laughed about funny products, salivated over desserts, found delicious fast-prep options, and helped each other carry groceries.

One of the best things about friends is the unconditional support they give you. Make sure to take some time this week to tell a friend you love them and do something together!

I was born in Bakersfield, but I have moved over ten times since I was three years old. I love books and musicals. Yes I am a Hamilton fanatic, Potter fan, Tolkien follower and feel the compulsive need to read at least once a day. My other favorite hobby is cooking. Currently my major is in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning at UC Davis.
