3 Holiday Romances You Need to Read

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and that means it’s time to pull out the Christmas decorations and blast the Christmas songs. As a hopeless romantic, Christmas is my favorite holiday. It is the time of the year where everyone seems most joyful and jolly, where families and friends gather together, and where you can eat till your heart desires. Since 2020 has been a rough year for many people, people need something to be happy and excited for. This is why it is more important than ever to celebrate Christmas this year. Even though Christmas may not look the same as previous years, we can still celebrate and make the most out of this holiday while practicing social distancing. One of my favorite Christmas traditions is to read Christmas romance novels while drinking hot chocolate before I head to bed. Most holiday romance novels showcase heartfelt romances with a touch of humor, fulfilling all your romantic fantasies during the holidays. For my fellow hopeless romantics who also love Christmas, here’s a list of Christmas romance novels that will get you into the holiday spirits:

1. We Met in December by Rosie Curtis

This holiday romantic comedy follows a year in the life of 29-year-old Jess and her journey to love. After sharing an immediate connection with her roommate, Alex, Jess finds out that he is dating someone else. The story follows how Jess and Alex navigate being simply roommates while ignoring their attraction towards each other during the holidays. Set in the romantic and snowy London, Jess and Alex’s love story is filled with passion, humor, emotions, and heartbreak. This book is perfect for those who enjoy a modern romance with unexpected twists that will make you feel all types of emotions.

2. Mistletoe and Mr. Right by Sarah Morgenthaler

The book starts with describing Lana Monygomenr who is a rich socialite stitch in a small town in Alaska, and also Rick Harding, the small-town boy who always had a crush on Lana. Their fates crossed paths because of the town’s Santa Moose, and both their lives were changed because of this fateful encounter. Both these characters bring so much joy and enthusiasm to the story, making it a light-hearted romance that encourages readers to appreciate the little things. In addition, the story is filled with cute Christmas elements that will get you in the holiday mood immediately, from beautiful Christmas trees to the whimsical town celebrations.

3. The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss

With twenty-three days left until Christmas, 34-year-old Kate tries to find love by going on twelve dates with twelve different men. Each date that she has been on has not been what Kate imagined, nothing romantic or flirtatious and just plain disastrous. As Kate is losing hope over finding the right man for her, she gets reminded that she has what she needed all along. Kate’s journey to love is filled with ups and downs and many heartwarming moments, prompting readers to cherish the people around them and what they have at the moment. This crowd-pleaser is a top favorite holiday novel in 2020, as many readers emphasized how this novel has reached out and touched many hearts while bringing Christmas joy and keeping the holiday spirit alive.

And there you have it, three Christmas romance novels that you will not want to put down once you start reading them. I hope that these novels will get you excited for this holiday season and spread some hope and happiness to you.
