The Little Mermaid LA Premiere Was Absolutely Stunning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Riverside chapter.

Disney’s live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid is nearing its release date on May 26. After several years of being in production, the day the film is in theaters is finally near! In anticipation of its release, a premiere was held in Los Angeles on May 8 and it looked amazing, from the ocean themed decor to the cast’s eye-catching outfits.

The Los Angeles premiere was long awaited for the cast and crew of the movie. Most of the actors were cast back in 2019, but due to the pandemic, the majority of the production was pushed off until 2021. After more than four years of dedication to the project, it is clear that everyone who worked on the film was thrilled to celebrate it.

Star Halle Bailey has been vocal about her enthusiasm for playing Ariel for years now. As press for the movie has been picking up, she has been channeling this in her fashion choices. The blue seashell dress she wore for the premiere was an excellent way to emulate her iconic character. This is her moment and we are all here for it!

Bailey’s performance is already receiving widespread acclaim and rightfully so. Based on everything we have seen, including her spectacular rendition of “Part of Your World” that debuted on music streaming services last month, she is the perfect Ariel. It is apparent that once the film is officially out there in the world, her version of the renowned mermaid turned Disney princess will become a new fan favorite.

It is wonderful that this film is almost here. No matter what, Disney live actions offer the opportunity for the classic stories to be reinvented. It will be interesting to see how The Little Mermaid will bring a well-loved animation back to the big screen in a new light. Considering the LA premiere’s excitement, it will not disappoint!
