Look Like A Dewy Queen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Riverside chapter.

During 2019, I experimented with many new makeup products, mostly eyeshadow and base products. I tend to be more selective with my base products, such as foundations, concealers, and powders because of my oily skin. I also became a fan of the more dewy skin trend that took off in 2019, however, it was difficult finding products that gave me a dewy and healthy look while also trying to not look and feel so oily. I want to share some of my new favorites that I found last year that helped me with that dewy look without looking too oily.

The No Filter Concealer by Colourpop Cosmetics, retails for $6.50 on the site, I was hesitant to try Colourpop base products because their specialty was not face products, but rather lip and eye products. I am so happy I went for it after watching many reviews on YouTube and the affordable price makes it even better, I was using the Tarte Shape Tape concealer before this; but I have no plans on going back. This concealer is creamy and lightweight, but it has amazing coverage! I can use it to spot conceal, under my eyes, or even as my foundation because of how versatile and lightweight it is. The finished look it healthy and dewy, but it is a matte concealer so it controls my oils very well. I highly recommend this product if you like affordable, natural-looking, matte, and high coverage concealers.

It can be safely said that Colourpop released many new products in 2019, but one of my best finds from them was their No Filter Matte Foundation, which retails for $12 on the site. While it is a matte foundation that helps us with oily skin, it is also marketed as natural, therefore it is not too cakey and thus helps give that natural, dewy, and healthy appearance. Something that did surprise me was the size of the bottle, which is just under 1oz. Another surprising thing for me was that it settled into my smile lines, which is something that does not normally happen with my foundation. However, I am happy to see past these little things because I really like the results. Another cool thing is that this foundation comes in 42 shades with different types of undertones, which should make it easier to find a shade that matches you!

I do not normally like to spend too much money on face products since I do not know how I will like them, but after many recommendations and reviews, I decided to splurge by purchasing the Anastasia Beverly Hills Loose Setting Powder, which retails for $36 on their site. The powder comes in five colors, I purchased the translucent one because that’s all my Sephora had; I can safely say that there is no flashback with this color. One of my favorite things easily is how big the packaging is because I use a big powder brush, so it fits nicely and is able to pick up enough powder evenly. It is so smooth and fine, my face feels so soft after application. This is a matte setting powder, therefore, it is great for combating oils. I was scared that it would be too matte, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that even when I applied it over my natural foundation, it would not completely take away the dewy look. I love setting my No Filter foundation and concealer with this powder because it is the best of both worlds!

I was trying to find products that further helped give me that dewy look and decided to try cream blush and highlight after my friend told me how much she loved the finish of them. I headed to my closest Ulta and found these gems, the Colourpop Blush Stix in Under Pressure and the Lite Stix in Star Brite, they each retail for $8. I am so glad I took my friend’s suggestion on cream products because they changed the game for me. The highlight is blinding and creamy, but most of all it melts nicely into my skin looks like a natural glow from within. The same can be said about the creaminess of the blush, it melts perfectly into my skin and makes me look healthy and alive. I like to blend the blush with a wet blending sponge and use my fingers for the highlight they give me a lot of control.

The dewy skin trend took the makeup community by storm and I fell prey to the beauty of it and I am so glad. As someone with oily skin this was something that I was scared to try, but it pays to try something you are intimidated by and make it work for you. Stay glowy my friends!
