Feeling a Little Overloaded During Finals?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Riverside chapter.

As college students, the one thing I can say we all have in common for a fact, is that we all stress out. For me, I have a huge problem with stress, as it has a huge negative impact on my health. My body becomes slow and tired, my skin breaks out, my mood is wacky, and in the last couple of years due to stress I have unfortunately lost 45% off my hair! So, I know I am not alone in this and with finals week soon approaching I figured I would share with you what I do to relieve or prevent stress.

An obvious way to avoid stress is by marking on your planners when you have an exam or when you have certain things due. Then mark on your calendar on which date you will do which assignment. This way you will have a schedule to follow and you can prevent yourself from falling behind. Just make sure you follow this!

If stress is going to occur no matter what, you must find a ten minute break to just take a deep breath and relax. What I usually do is clean. Yes, that may sound super weird I know. But typically, when I’m stressing out it’s hard to get things done. As I pile my clothes on the floor and my makeup vanity becomes a hot mess, it adds to the stress. So I choose one of my favorite artist’s to listen to and I go on a cleaning spree. I organize all of my clothes, wash my makeup brushes and organize my makeup. Then I feel like I don’t have clutter around me, making my mind feel more organized. If that does not do the trick, I usually give myself some time to catch up on a few episodes of my favorite show…while doing a face mask. This way I am detoxifying my face in order to prevent breakouts and basically relaxing in the comfort of my own home.

Sometimes, a warm tea may do the trick to relax your mind and your body and make you feel a little less stressed.

If I am having a busy month, I don’t get a chance to go to the nail salon and get my gel nails done. So what I do to relieve some stress is play some music and paint my nails.

These are just a couple tips and tricks of what I like to do when I am feeling a little on the stressed side. I don’t ever recommend indulging in junk food when feeling sad or stressed–mainly because it counteracts on the whole stressed thing. When I used to do that the problem went from being stressed out about school to being stressed out about gaining weight! So I recommend doing things to make you feel both good on the inside and on the outside.

I hope this helps! If you girls have any tips you may want to share, feel free to let us know, as I know, I am always looking for new ways to prevent myself from being stressed out.
