With the recent bipolar weather, finding an outfit in the morning isn’t as easy as throwing on a t-shirt and jeans. Sometimes the wind blows your hair into a knotted mess making you freeze while walking to your 8 AM class. Other times, it’s so hot that you sweat like no other. Luckily, many articles of clothing and accessories are made to complement any weather, any time of the year. The weather may be unpredictable and crazy, but your style doesn’t have to be — unless you want it to, that is.

1.  Scarves
Scarves are a perfect example of a
multifunctional accessory to add to an everyday outfit. Whether you’re into the current trend of infinity scarves, or prefer the basic knit scarf, they are perfect for those last few cold days before spring hits Riverside. Light-weight scarves, on the other hand, are perfect for the days where all you want to do is take a nap with the air conditioning blasting on high. Whatever the occasion, scarves serve not only as an extra layer of warmth, but also as a super trendy and fashionable pop of color, suitable for both guys and girls.

2.  Watches
A recent trend among guys is accessorizing with a simple, neutral colored watch. Most guys who sport watches tend to go towards the darker shades, such as black or grey. As for brands, Nixon seems to be the most popular choice by the students on our campus. Girls, too, have been seen on the watch bandwagon. Chunky, mens-wear inspired watches have been making more recent appearances both on celebrities and students alike. But then again, you can never go wrong with a classy, simple watch to add to any outfit. You’ll be on time for class, and you’ll be in fashion.

3.  Hats
As spring approaches, the days filled with gloomy weather will soon be replaced with warm sunshine. Protect yourself from the harsh UV rays while looking fashionable by accessorizing with hats. Guys tend to lean towards branded snapbacks, while ladies can give their outfits a more laid back look by sporting a fedora or a cute beret while it’s still cold. (Hats are especially good for hiding those bad hair days!)

4.  Sunglasses
Along with the hot weather comes the uncomfortable feeling of the sun shining in your eyes. Protect your vision while avoiding the unflattering squinty-eyed look by accessorizing with sunglasses. You can never go wrong with the classic wayfarer or aviator inspired shades. Or be adventurous and try some out-of-the-ordinary colored or shaped glasses to add a little personality to your outfits.

Get inspired by your peers, fashion blogs, or the weather, and try something new. No matter what accessory trend you choose to rock this spring, remember, your clothes are what you make of them. Experiment with your closet by mixing and matching different accessories, or wear something out of your comfort zone. Give yourself a ‘spring’ of confidence this upcoming quarter — when you look good, you feel good!
