I am in my final month of my senior year being an undergraduate and it’s pretty surreal especially since I’ve been in school since I was five years old. It’s weird knowing I won’t be in school for another year since I am taking a gap year. School is pretty much all I have known my entire life and to not be doing it feels foreign. Although it is a bittersweet time, there have been some pretty cool things happening on campus which have made the experience even better.

The first is being able to get your cap and gown. Getting your cap in gown in college is much more different than in high school since many of the things you’re getting are personalized more to you and what you did during your college career. So for example, I am a double major so I am able to get two different tassels, since each major has their own. My two majors are political science and philosophy so I got a white tassel that represents political science since it’s part of arts, letter and humanities while philosophy is its own separate category that I got ablue tassel for. This allowed me to customize my cap and gown more to who I am and what I have done throughout college.

Secondly, I will be able to take graduation photos! I feel very accomplished because I was able to win a free photoshoot with a professional photographer. Not only is this a pretty exciting opportunity since I won’t have to pay but it’s a memory I will always have with me. I always loved taking photos with my friends and family so to be able to do a whole photoshoot is pretty cool.

Lastly, since I am in a sorority, they are currently doing senior week which is kind of like the week where they show love and appreciation for all the seniors a part of the chapter. It’s a pretty sweet and fun week with different things happening. For example with my chapter they were working on giving us different cute things throughout the week such as flowers or cards and then on the last day there is a banquet where they will be celebrating the seniors. It’s a very cute thing to do and makes everyone finally be like “wow, I am graduating”.

These are probably some of the best things I’ve experienced of being a senior so far but I do have about a month left so there might be more to add. Hopefully this month doesn’t go by too quickly but that I can enjoy my last bits of fun and college life with my sorority sisters and friends.
