How did the band form?
Daniel: I personally believe it was born January of 2011, but we have been a band long before that. And the reason that I say this is because we have been trying to find our sound, and i still don’t think we’ve found it. We  have been playing and writing all throughout high school and I feel like we have come a long way and that we’ve been playing are little hearts out to the point that I can finally say that yes we are a band now.

Louis: Well I remember back in high school, 10th grade to be exact we used to jam out at Alex’s house. At the time it was Daniel, Alex, and our friend Joe, who were part of the group. I used to play guitar at that time but by the end of our Junior year I left the band. On occasion, Daniel and I  would rock out during our free time along with some other friends. About three years later after I graduated I saw Daniel’s post of facebook that [NOVA] was looking for a bassist, and BAMB right away I send him a text saying that I was down for the gig. I started practicing the songs that they had and I really don’t know how it happen but a few months later we were playing shows together and rocking out.

What has been the biggest challenge as a band?
Daniel: Hmm I’m not sure what the biggest challenge are for us as a band, but I would say that it has to be booking shows.
Louis: To me our biggest challenge has been trying to play at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, CA but one day we’re going to rock that place out.

Where did you all meet?
Daniel: We all meet in high school.
Louis: I met Daniel in Elementary school, and we went to middle school together, but we actually got to know each other in high school.

Who are the main inspirations for the band?
Daniel: I would have to say that  Tool is our main inspiration.
Louis: My biggest inspiration has been Metallica, and many other bands too but they’re my number one choice…haha.

What genre would you classify your band as?
Daniel: I would say that we’re more like an alternative rock band.
Louis: Yeah, Daniel is right we’re classified under alternative rock

How have your songs changed throughout the years?
Daniel: Our songs haven’t really changed  we have written many songs but as far as change goes, I’d say that we’ve gotten better.haha.
Louis: Like Daniel said, we have written so many songs and with all of the ideas that we bring to the band we’ve gotten pretty good since we started.

What makes your band unique?
Daniel: Our imperfections make us unique.
Louis: I’d say that it’s our sound, lyrics, and the energy that we have.

What advice would you give to other people who are trying to form a band?
Daniel: Practice Practice Practice! And don’t go playing shows if you’re not ready.
Louis: Be original, never be a copy of someone else and rock out!

What is the most memorable event that has happened to your band?
Daniel: That would have to be playing at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood.
Louis: Performing at the Whisky A Go Go down in Hollywood was amazing, the feeling of playing in the same stage where Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Motley Crue started their careers was just mind-blowing.

How and why did you name your band [Nova]?
Daniel: Well a long time a go we were named Protest but the name didn’t really fit, my brother insisted on changing it to NOVA after the Chevy car. I told Alex about it after we talked it over he said agreed that we should change it to NOVA and bam the rest is history. Ever since then i wanted to add something to the name and i added brackets to the name [NOVA]
Louis: Well Daniel pretty much said it but, if there’s a Chevelle, then why not NOVA..haha

Where have you performed ? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Any upcoming events?
Daniel: We have performed in the bay area, but my favorite would have to be the Whisky A Go Go, and playing with Maren Parusel. As far as events go, we should have some coming up soon.
Louis: All around the bay area, my least favorite to be honest is Nickle City in San Jose, it was really small. My favorite performance was at the Whisky thanks to the amazing staff and outstanding sound.

Who writes your songs? What are the main messages/directions of your songs?
Daniel: Well I would say that we come up with our own ideas and start playing around with them.
Louis: We all collaborate with songs, sometimes Daniel and I start doing a song in our free time. And later on we share it with the rest of the band so that we can start throwing in some more ideas and BAM!! It becomes a [NOVA] song.

Any last words?
Daniel: Check us out!
Louis: Expect us very soon; I’m sure you’ll like our music. And tell your friends about us!
