5 Must See Summer Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Riverside chapter.

Hello my fellow Universiettes!

Can you believe we’re already halfway through the quarter?! I can’t either! This quarter has gone by in a blink of an eye as did the school year. Some of you may be graduating (CONGRATURFREAKINLATIONS!) and moving on to bigger and greater things, while the rest of us are waiting for our next new and exciting chapter in our university lives (YAYUUUH). Whatever the case, I know most of us can’t wait for a big, long, break from studying our butts off.

WHAT TIME IS IT?! SUMMER TIME!

With the hot hot heat coming our way (It’s been getting really hot, like no lie some days I’m dying.), the countdown to summer has commenced. (Only five more weeks to go, we can do this!) Now I don’t know what you plan to do for the summer, perhaps go to the beach like…everyday! Or maybe even go on a sweet vacation to some Caribbean paradise or a road trip! No matter what you do, you’re bound to visit the movie theater at least once. (c’mon don’t lie) or…at least I’d recommend you do, especially with these 5 movies coming in theaters near you this summer!

The Mortal Instruments

OMG OMG OMG OMG! I don’t know if any of you have read this series by Cassandra Claire, (which I highly recommend) and for those of you who have (*wink wink, nudge nudge* ya know what’s up) but this series is so great I can’t even express its awesomeness in words. Just put every single mythical creature you have ever heard of; witches, vampires, warlocks, werewolves, fairies, etc. etc. and some badass assassin-like warrior teenagers, called shadow hunters, together and you have the Mortal Instruments. (Oh and there’s a love story stuck in there somewhere that I’m sure you’ll love). This is the perfect movie to see with your girlfriends or guy friends too, coming out August 23. (I know, I can’t wait either >.<)

Grown Ups 2

Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and David Spade return this summer for a sequel to the hilarious comedy about five friends who are reunited after their old basketball coach passes away and have the most craziest and unforgettable summer of their lives. If you haven’t seen the first Grown Ups then I recommend you should watch it before you see this movie to see if you can handle the funny! If it’s anything like the first one, you’ll definitely have a blast. Great to watch with friends or family; in theaters July 12.

Monster University

I’ve been waiting for what seems an eternity for this! A sequel…well I guess in this case a prequel, of the cherished childhood memory that is Monsters Inc. This movie shows the story behind the friendship of our two favorite characters James P. Sullivan “Sulley” and Mike Wazowski when they first meet in college (WHOO!) Comes out June 21!

This is the End

Check out the trailer for this movie and you’ll see why this is a must see! Bound for hilarious laughs this movie stars; Jonah Hill, James Franco, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Jay Burachel, Seth Rogan, Michael Cera, and many more of your favorite celebrities and what they do when the apocalypse hits. Hitting the theaters June 12! :)

World War Z

Brad Pitt + Zombies + The End of the World = EPIC. That’s all I got to say. This also comes out June 21.
