A November Playlist to be Thankful For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

November is finally upon us! As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, it’s important to keep in mind all of the things you are thankful for. This month is all about gratitude. There are so many things to be grateful for: life, love, friends, warm blankets, and hot chocolate, to name a few. Take the time to enjoy the sound of birds chirping, the smell of pumpkin spice lattes, and the way your best friend laughs at all your jokes (even when they are not funny).

Count your blessings and enjoy this lovely playlist to get you through the month!

1. Little Things By One Direction

This song is the perfect appreciation anthem for women everywhere. Let the boys of One Direction remind you how beautiful you are. All of the little things you might be insecure about are what make you, you. So be thankful for your body because it’s the only one you have. Take care and be kind to yourself, girl.

2. Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae

Corinne Bailey Rae’s soothing voice on this track is perfect for an evening in. Take some time to appreciate all of the sweet things around you. Be thankful for the life you have and “go ahead, let your hair down”.

3. Ivy by Frank Ocean

This song from Frank Ocean’s latest album, Blonde, acknowledges a coming of age. With lyrics like “we’ll never be those kids again”, Ocean emphasizes how life is about growth, even if that means growing apart from someone you care about. Be thankful for your past, for that is what made you who you are today.

4. Better Together Jack Johnson

This cute tune is perfect to listen to while sharing earphones with your best friend, or significant other. Sometimes we take friendships for granted, especially when they are long term. Pick up your phone and call or text your BFF to let them know how thankful you are for them. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.

5. Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara

Here’s another song to remind you to love yourself. It’s easy to give in to societal pressures and want to change your appearance for the validation of others, but it is important to be thankful for the life that you have. Alessia Cara lets you know that you’re beautiful just the way you are.

6. The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson

Ingrid Michaelson takes the complexity of love and transforms it into something so simple with this endearing song. Be thankful for those who support you and love you just the way you are. Also take some time to appreciate people who aren’t afraid to be themselves around you. Genuine relationships are the most valuable ones.

7. Something In The Way You Move by Ellie Goulding

This song is perfect for appreciating those moments that make you dance around without a care in the world. There’s nothing more fun than dancing in your PJs and letting go like no one is watching. Do your happy dance! There’s definitely something in the way you move.

8. Love Yourz by J. Cole

This track is all about loving life itself. There’s “no such thing as a life that’s better than yours.” Forgive your past and fall in love with the present. Allow J. Cole to remind you that life is a gift, and you should cherish it.

9. Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine

Florence never fails to bring us on a journey to a parallel universe through her carefully composed tracks and melodious lyrics. Dog Days Are Over is all about finding happiness. There are so many things to be happy about, all you have to do is take a look around!

10. Halo by Beyonce

We could not create a playlist without including a song by Queen Bey. Halo is about seeing the good in other people. Be thankful for all of the positive influences in your life and aspire to be a positive part of others’ lives as well.

Hi! My name is Nat and I am a third year student at UC Irvine. I'm proud to call sunny Los Angeles my hometown.  I love being a tourist in my own city; going to museums, trying new places to eat, and exploring locations for cute photo-ops!
