A new dessert place has just opened at the University Town Center right across from the UCI campus called Snowflakez. I recently went to try this new place because it is very similar to Fluff Ice, which I absolutely adore when it comes to the vendor fair on campus.
This place sells shaved ice, but not the kind where you dump a bunch of syrup on it. This shaved ice already has the flavor infused into the ice block before they start shaving it. You can add toppings to your shaved ice, which are similar to the ones offered at Yogurtland, as well as different types of other flavorings, such as condensed milk.
When I got there, I was greeted in a friendly manner, but was not offered samples as they did with the other patrons. They also had run out of a lot of certain flavors. With my options limited, I ended up choosing strawberry. I enjoyed it, but I wish that I had known about the free samples they give out and had tried the other, more unique flavors. My shaved ice was made quite quickly, and since I had paid an extra $1.50 for toppings, the employee behind the counter offered me up to four toppings. This was the part I was extremely disappointed in; she only put one spoonful of each topping on one side of the shaved ice. I would say that getting toppings at this place is not worth it.
Verdict: I would give this place a 3/5 stars because of the service I received. However, I believe it was a little bit overpriced for my college student budget. Nonetheless, it is still a nice alternative if you are at UTC and you do not want boba or Yogurtland for dessert.
