It’s Okay Not to Date in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, many of us feel particularly single, including myself.

But don’t be too hard on yourself, as its more than okay to be single, and here’s why.

We have busy schedules!

Not only do we all have to study, but we also have to make time for friends and work. It just isn’t always realistic in our lives.

Maybe there just isn’t anyone you’re interested in.

I love UCI, and to be honest, I would love to date someone, but I just haven’t found anyone to be interested in here yet, and I’m already halfway through my 3rd year. You’ll find someone for you eventually, so there’s no rush.

Who says we have to go by society’s standards of when we should date?

Not everyone is necessarily ready for a relationship, and some just aren’t interested at all. I’m nearly 21 and I’ve never dated anyone, but I’m okay with that, because there are things in my life that are just more important to me currently.

You can celebrate Valentine’s Day without a significant other!

Take the opportunity to celebrate love, and show love to yourself, your friends, and your family. Giving out valentines didn’t have to stop in elementary school.
