GTL Time: Jersey Shore Returns for a Fifth Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

We all have our television guilty pleasures. MTV’s Jersey Shore is a popular guilty pleasure to college students due to its outrageous drinking, fighting and partying. The gang came back on January 5th for its fifth season and this time they are back to the original Shore house. For those of you who have been too busy (it’s week two already??), here is a quick recap of the first two episodes:

1.  Snooki and Jionni
My prediction is that this season will focus on this couple. Why?  Because the gang is back at the Shore and that means that Jionni can visit Snooki and her many outlandish hair pieces more. The couple seems to be doing well, but still working on Snooki’s drinking problem. Jionni always seems to have treat Snooki like a child, rather than a girlfriend, at the club. But that is “Snooki being Snooki.”

2.  Mike “The Situation”
The cast members sometimes refer to him as the “snitch,” and, so far, his nickname fits his actions. Remember last season, when he would not drop what happened between him and Snooki? Well, he will not drop the tale of that night. In fact, in the first episode of the new season, he brought in his best friend, the “The Unit,” to help confirm the tale. Well, “The Unit” appears to be an interesting character, since he never learned the concept of wearing clothes. Plus, Snooki hates him.

But “The Situation” returns Snooki’s hate towards him and his friend with kindness directed towards Jionni. As he declares himself the “master of deception” in the second episode, “The Situation”  say this, “If you don’t know how to play chess, maybe drop down and play checkers.” Hmmm… interesting. I guess we’ll have to watch and see what happens.

3.  Vinny
To me, Vinny has always been sort of invisible in the show. No storylines really directly affect Vinny…except for Snooki’s attraction towards him. But in this season, we see a different side to Vinny. He becomes very anxious. In fact, in the second episode, he leaves the show. What will show be like without Vinny? Will the house be divided? And who will be Pauly D’s wingman?

4.  Pauly D
Pauly D is the most amusing guy on the show. He seems like a fun guy and, so far, this season is no different. In the second episode, he puts the “T” GTL by getting sunburn on his face (Ouch!). In the same episode, his hook-up steals his diamond necklace. Snooki joked that she “stuffed it in her a**hole,” as the cameras showed that she did. The next day, the girl returned the diamond necklace. (This situation shows you that it is always best not to bring strangers home.)

5.  Ron and Sammie
This couple is all about drama. Every season, they always get into a huge fight. But, so far, it looks like smooth sailing between these two. Because the next time they fight I think I want to hit a wall…

So, this season looks like the continue drama with some fun. The gang always keeps the viewers amused and this season looks no different. My only complaint is “Where’s JWoww!???!” Nevertheless, I think this show will amuse me until school becomes crazy busy. Until then, I’ll watch the gang hit up Karma every Thursday night at 10 pm.
