5 Festive Yule Log Specials that will Tickle your Christmas Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

As we’re nearing Finals Week, it’s important to remember the five key pillars of self-care (Disclaimer: not professionally-endorsed):

  1. Breathe.
  2. Sleep (and nap!).
  3. Eat.
  4. Cry.
  5. Watch Yule Log videos.

You might be wondering, “What the heck are yule log videos?” Well, my friend, they are videos of crackling fireplaces, usually with a spicy Christmas twist. If you’re wondering why anyone would bother recording their fireplace (and why anyone would bother watching), here are some iconic yule log videos that will help answer both questions.

5) The Classic High-Def, Immersive Christmas Experience

When Michael Bublé starts playing at around 52:50…Oh, man. Bring out the vegan eggnog, ladies!! It’s Christmas time!

4) The Unnecessarily Long Fire Crackling Special

This is truly the “littiest” yule log video on the interweb. Airdrop this to your flat screen during parties. Your guests will surely be entertained for the whole 10+ hours!

3) The Adorable Kitty and Doggo Duo

I spy with my little eye…two magnificent beasts who won’t sit still in front of the fireplace. This video is very distracting and also a little X-rated (see 2:02:22), but generally very wholesome and entertaining.

2) The Nick Offerman Sitting in a Chair while Drinking Whisky and Gazing at the Camera Spectacular

It’s Ron mothaf***ing Swanson. What a man! Don’t stare at his eyes for too long, you might just fall in love.

1) The I Would Die for this Fireplace Cutie, Limited Edition Yule Log Episode

I’m not a big fan of cats, but even I have to admit that this lil’ bub is a charmer. That lil’ purr is guaranteed to melt the coldest of hearts. 15/10. Grand cinematic experience. Bravo.

In all seriousness, yule log videos can be extremely therapeutic. If you’re feeling a little down or stressed, try keeping a virtual fireplace cracklin’ in the background while you study. It’s very relaxing, trust me. Happy holidays, and merry yule-loggin’ to you all!
