Woman Sexually Assaulted After Campus Kidnapping

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

According to a campus crime alert, a woman was kidnapped on campus last Thursday night. The kidnapping occurred at about 6 p.m. Shortly after, she was driven to an unknown location and was sexually assaulted. On Friday morning, the police located the victim. As of now, the police are still investigating the case and have not released any information on the suspect. UCPD (University of California Police) has noted that this has been the seventh sexual assault of the year, a slight increase from last year. A campus crime alert has been sent out.

Tips on remaining safe

1) Don’t stay out too late. If you do, make sure to be with a buddy.

2) Let others know about your whereabouts. Be aware of your own surroundings.

3) Try to walk through areas with more foot traffic during the night.

4) Use free campus night safety services like the night shuttle or Bear Walk!

-Night shuttle is a free shuttle service. There are 2 south side lines and 1 north side line that provides transit around campus.

-BearWALK allows students to request a safety escort service. Students choose pickup and drop off locations around campus.

5) Report any suspicious individuals to UCPD.

6) Invest in some pepper spray.
