THE QUEST FOR THE HOLY CREPE

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

One fine, beautiful Saturday morning, the sun shines elegantly through the window of Unit 1 as three freshmen slowly wake up from their sweet slumber. Today, the freshmen are on a quest. Fresh at Cal, all three of them are still clueless about the community beyond campus and are eager to explore new areas on the weekends.

“I heard they have crêpes on Saturdays,” said Freshman A, a student who has an addiction to unhealthy sweets. They suggest that this weekend they visit the mysterious, faraway eastward location for brunch.

“I’m not so sure about walking all the way there,” says sluggish Freshman B who would never set foot into the world if she could.

“Well, we can take the bus,” says Freshman C, who is the brains of the group. Sensing she might be losing her cause, Freshman A eagerly offers to take them on a shortcut she knows and promises that they will be there in a short amount of time. And just like that, the three freshmen begin their journey.

But not even halfway through their walk, sluggish Freshman B grows worrisome. She notices how the houses lining up the way to the faraway location are booming with music and the people who live there are making a lot of noise. She tugs at Freshman A, “What is going on? Is there a riot? A, I think we should turn around and go back to Unit 1.”

This frustrates Freshman C, who replies with much annoyance that, “No, they are just partying, shut up and keep walking.” Freshman B grows really panicky because the people sound really agitated and the ground reeks of something strange. She wonders if the crêpe is really worth all the creepy things going on. Freshman A feels really guilty for dragging B out of their safe, toasty room out into the vulgar world. “Don’t worry, B, we’re almost there.” She tries to reassure her. And so the three freshmen continue their way on the treacherous, rowdy route to crêpes.

Finally, they arrive at the entrance of the location, where flowers bloom and the air smells like honey. They take in deep breaths and are ready to devour their much-awaited brunch. The staff at the door check their vaccination badge, their most important asset to access food. They feel warm and giddy for food. The freshmen look at the faraway location in awe as they wait in line, the mood just right, and the radio playing softly in the background. But hold on – something is missing. The freshmen went on a quest for –

They are not serving crêpes!
