Super Bowl XLVIII: Seahawks vs Broncos

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

This Sunday evening is America’s most watched sporting event of the year: the 48th annual Super Bowl in New Jersey.

To help you tackle this weekend, here are the top 5 things you need to know about Super Bowl weekend.

1. The Opponents

Sadly, our San Francisco 49ers were beaten by Seattle’s Seahawks who won the NFC championship and obtained their ticket to the Super Bowl.

                                                                                              NFC Champion

The Seahawks will be facing the AFC Champions, the Denver Broncos who beat Tom Brady’s Patriots in the AFC Championship two weeks ago.

2. The Weather

The big game will be played in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. As you know the weather in the East Coast has been tremendously cold due to the polar vortex. Snow falling has caused many issues around New Jersey, including tons of snow inside the stadium. According to many weather broadcasters snow is predicted to fall during the the big game. Many have already named the game the Freeze Bowl due to the weather.

3. Scandalous Players

A Super Bowl isn’t a Super Bowl without its scandalous key players. On the Seahawks, by now the name Richard Sherman should stand out more than any other player on the team. His scandalous interview after the NFC Championship game against the 49ers went worldwide and got him major media coverage. His confidence and his arrogance of being the best cornerback in the league shot him to Super Bowl fame. Win or lose, Sherman will definitely have everyone talking about him by the end of game. Go Seahawks!!

On the Broncos side things are a little bit more calm. There might not be such a scandalous player on the Broncos but there is a main key player: Peyton Manning.  A four-time MVP, Manning is the Broncos quarterback and most famous faces. He is the QB of the moment and a class act. What we can expect from Manning this weekend is a lot of OMAHA and great plays. Go Broncos!!

4. Halftime Show

Last year we had Queen B perform in the halftime show in New Orleans, this year the amazing and talented Bruno Mars will team up with the Red Hot Chili Peppers to give us a performance to remember.

5. Commercials

What is a Super Bowl with the amazing, humors, and touchy television commercials. Here are some we are already loving!!!

       Budweiser: Puppy Love

       H&M: David Beckham

      Toyota Highlander: “Joyride”

      MetLife: “Stadium Anthem”
