Summer Come Faster

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

We’re only two weeks away from the end of instruction, and four weeks away from the end of finals. Although most of us would rather be back at home, hanging out with friends or at Coachella right now, we’re here studying (or procrastinating) instead. It’s difficult at this time of year to find the motivation to do… anything, really. I find myself trying to write papers, and five minutes later I’m starting a new show on Netflix. Fortunately, I know I’m not alone. All my friends feel the same. We can’t concentrate, we’re burnt out and dying for summer to be here already.

Not only is it difficult to find motivation for school work, a lot of us are anticipating summer internship decisions from companies, as well as trips and festivals were going to over the summer. And for others, they’re just waiting for the short two week break they get before starting summer classes. But when you’re feeling unmotivated, just realize that it’s normal and almost every other student is feeling exactly the same (and if they say they don’t… they’re lying). And even though it’s difficult at this time in the year, it’s important to continue working hard in our academics, clubs and all extracurriculars because it’ll definitely pay off in the long run. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. So although it may be tempting to watch Netflix, take a nap or go hangout with friends in order to avoid any studying, just think about how close we are to summer. You’ll have three months to binge-watch TV shows, sleep and go out with friends. So right now it’s crunch time to get our last assignments and study sessions in!

As a senior undergraduate, I seek out all opportunities that expand my horizons, with the aim of developing professionally and deepening my vision of how I can positively impact the world around me. While most of my career aims revolve around healthcare and medicine, I enjoy producing content that is informative, engaging, and motivating.  In the past few years, I have immersed myself in the health field through working at a private surgical clinic, refining my skills as a research assistant in both wet-lab and clinical settings, shadowing surgeons in a hospital abroad, serving different communities with health-oriented nonprofits, and currently, exploring the pharmaceutical industry through an internship in clinical operations.  Career goals aside, I place my whole mind and soul in everything that I pursue whether that be interacting with patients in hospice, consistently improving in fitness PR’s, tutoring children in piano, or engaging my creativity through the arts. Given all the individuals that I have yet to learn from and all the opportunities that I have yet to encounter in this journey, I recognize that I have much room and capacity for growth. Her Campus is a platform that challenges me to consistently engage with my community and to simultaneously cultivate self-expression.
