Every Student, Every Year. This has been Student Action’s main tagline for years. By taking a deeper look at Sahana Rajasekar (#202), one of the Student Action candidates this year, we get a further insight to what this phrase really means. Sahana Rajasekar (#202) is running for ASUC Senate behind Apple Engineering and Student Action. She is a 2nd year engineering major who has spent most of her time here at Cal involved in various organizations such as, Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity, Society of Women Engineers (SWE) ,Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Dil Se South Asian A Capella Group, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Association of Women in EECS (AWE), and Berkeley Innovation, Berkeley Institute of Design.  We took a few minutes to interview Sahana and learn even more about her.

HC: What made you interested in running for ASUC Senate?
SR:  I think that people lose sight that they can make a difference on campus and being around individuals who do make a difference has motivated me to be a leader in my communities.

HC: What are goals if you were to be elected into office?
SR: I have three main goals. The first is to create a “Geek” Station on campus. This would allow for students to get technology help on campus. If you are having problems with your laptop you can just stop by free of charge. Who doesn’t need help everyone in a while?

My second goal is to improve the weak cell phone signal on campus. Because I am an engineering major that is where I begin to start. Such as Etcheverry, Soda, Cory, Stanley, and the Bechtel Engineering Library. I will work with the Engineering Department to actively tackle this problem.

My third goal would be to promote student health. As students go about their busy lives, balancing the demands of academics and work, stress is often an unfortunate side effect. I hope to promote and create more opportunities for students to put their personal well-being first. Working with University Health Services, I want to remove stigmas associated with seeking help and increase mental health awareness around campus. For example the tang center brings puppies to campus during finals week and nobody knows about it, and it’s such a great way to distress.

HC:  Wow, you have a lot of big plans for campus and they seem very beneficial. With all the different groups you are involved with how are you planning on making time for another role?
SR:  Honestly, I am really passionate about everything I do, from singing to Tri-Delt. It’s never felt like a chore. I am just like everyone else, and I make time for things I love. Yeah, I’m busy and it requires scarifies but it’s definitely worth it. I meet amazing people who become some of my closest friends.

HC: Thank you Sahana, and good luck!
SR: Thank you, Vote 202!
