Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week officially kicked off this Thursday in New York City. Some of the biggest designers in fashion will be showing their Fall/Winter 2014 collections to many editors, celebrities, and special invitees. If you are a newbie to Fashion Week don’t worry we have you covered, here are the top things you need to know about the most fashionable week in winter.Â
1. Location and Dates!
New York Fashion Week runs from February 6 through February 13, and its official location is Lincoln Center, although many designers such as Alexander Wang, will be showing at different locations.Â
2. Invitation Only!!
Fashion Week isn’t like any event where you can just purchase a ticket and go, it’s an industry event where invitations are sent directly to those selected by the designer and PR team. Those invited include: editors, stylists, buyers, reporters, models, bloggers, and celebrities.Â
3. Models, Models, Models!!!
Word has it that there will be more diversity among models. The runways will be filled with more representation of different ethnicities and more plus-sized models.Â
4. Icon!!!
This year one of the biggest designer’s in fashion is celebrating 40 years of her signature wrap dress. Yes, the queen Diane von Furstenberg has hit a milestone and is celebrating in big. According to many reports, Furstenberg is teaming up with American Express to showcase their collaboration to fashionistas around the world on Sunday, Feb 9.Â
5. #NYFW
Finally, the last thing you should know about is that although you might of not received an invite to fashion week, you can still follow all the buzz on social media by using the hastag #NYFW.Â
