HOW TO PROCRASTINATE WITH A GOOD SHOW

Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

Do you need a break and want to stream an episode of a cool show or binge on something new to put off your Chem 12A work? Here’s a list of shows you can watch based on different genres.

Teen Drama:

If you’re in need of watching a good drama with catfights or love triangles, here are a couple of shows for you. Pretty Little Liars centers around four girls in a town called Rosewood. Although they may seem like the perfect group, their lies keep them together after their group’s leader, Allison Dilaurentis, disappears, and an anonymous person who goes by “A” begins to harass them. The show navigates toward finding out what happened the night Allison went missing and who A is. Another great show is Gossip Girl. Like Pretty Little Liars, an anonymous online website, “Gossip Girl,” exposes Manhattan’s elite but constantly targets high society elites Serena Vanderwoodsen, Blair Waldorf, Nate Archibald, and Chuck Bass. If you like seeing love, chaos, and gossip break lose, this show is for you. Finally, a great pick on my list is The Fosters, as protagonist Callie and her brother Jude try to be adopted by the Foster family. However, a few bumps in the road make this process difficult, including love and sabotage.

Horror drama:

If you’re a fanatic of scary films, this category is for you. American Horror Story is a great anthology centered around different stories and characters in different periods with abnormal and scary occurrences, including stories with witches, cults, and freaky circus attractions. The Vampire Diaries is also great if you’re a fan of supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves, and witches. The two supernatural Salvatore brothers are fighting for the human Elena while combating evil beings of the supernatural world; they must fight for her love and the town’s safety to avoid havoc breaking them apart.

Sitcoms:

A good laugh on a stressful day is needed, especially after freaking out over an exam. If you’re in need of this, a great sitcom can help cheer you up. That ’70s Show is a good pick. It focuses on teenagers who hang out in a basement, crack hilarious disses, and pull funny stunts in town. But overall, they are a family who loves each other and are navigating their teen years with friends who know how to have a good time in the Wisconsin area during the era of the ’70s. Modern Family is a sitcom based on a hilarious family navigating how to make their unique family dynamic work. This show will have you laughing for hours and enjoy the beauty and joy of having fun with family and friends. Finally, an old but classic sitcom on my list is Friends. This show portrays the dynamic friendships and comical situations this group of six living in Manhattan go through while experiencing love, breakups, and new familial aspects of life. The show also touches on the importance of friends, as they can eventually become your closest family and become loved ones.

Reality TV:

Reality TV can be amusing and entertain audiences immensely when needed. If you want to watch a show like this, here are my top three picks for this category. Jersey Shore is a show that follows a new group of friends working in a T-shirt shop in exchange for being given a home in a beach house on Jersey shore. This show follows the drama, laughs, and crazy shenanigans of these 20-year-olds in the new environment of the shore. Another funny reality tv show is Dance Moms. The dancers of the Abby Lee Dance Company compete weekly in different competitions around the nation, with Abby Lee herself as their tough and demanding instructor. The competition and stakes are high, but the moms fighting with each other over whose daughter gets a solo is an immense part of the show. The drama and tension in the studio are seen in the show and the beautiful dances and talent these girls have to offer. Another entertaining show which dates back to the early 2000s and is an ultimate classic is Keeping up with the Kardashians. This classic follows the lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family and the crazy events that happen in their lives. Although the show highlights the crazy cheating scandals and insane family drama, it also shows their immense love for one another despite the fights and the laughter they share, making it a must-watch.

Animated series:

If you want to feel like you’re back at home sitting in front of the TV watching your favorite cartoon as a carefree seven-year-old, this list is for you. Gravity Falls is a show in the abnormal town of gravity falls, where twin siblings Dipper and Mable Pines stay over the summer. They fight off supernatural beings and discover strange secrets of the town while abolishing evil entities, which leads to an ultimate showdown with one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Chowder is a great show for my food fanatics, as this cartoon is about a young apprentice who wishes to become a chef when he is older. This show displays the laughter within friendships, love, and enjoying delicious food. My last pick for this is Avatar: The Last Airbender, an all-time favorite for many children of my generation. Aang is the last Airbender, who ultimately must wield the four elements of air, earth, fire, and wind to save the tribes from being conquered by the fire nation, who wants to rule the entire land with an iron fist. This show heals your inner child with comical characters and one-liners. It is a must-watch for anyone who wants to have a good laugh and be immersed in the life of Aang and his friends.

Thank you for reading this list, and enjoy watching at least one of these cool TV show picks.
