Our campus celebrity this week is a NBA player: Leon Powe
Powe was born in Oakland, C.A. and attended Oakland Technical High School. In 2003, he went to the University of California, Berkeley, where he played college basketball for the California Golden Bears till 2006.
He earned the Pac-10 freshman of the year in his first year as a Golden Bear. Although he suffered from a serious knee injury in his sophomore year, he rehabilitated and was named California’s most valuable player in 2006.
In his junior year, Powe was drafted to the NBA and was selected by the Denver Nuggets. He was then traded to the Boston Celtics, with which he played his first three years in the NBA. In 2008, he won a championship with the team as a power forward.
Inspiring quote: “Only believe in yourself, no one else, because people come and go, and at the end it is just you, and I wouldn’t have it no other way.”
