This week’s campus celebrity is our very own NFL star: Keenan Allen
Allen was born in Greensboro, N.C., where he attended Grimsley High School for two years before transferring to North Guilford High. In 2010, Allen was drafted to the University of California, Berkeley, where he played as a wide receiver for the Golden Bears.Â

During his time as a Golden Bear, Allen received the All-Pac-12 honorable mention twice in a row and the 2011 Bear Backers MVP Award. In 2013, Allen decided to enroll into the NFL Draft, putting college aside to live his dream.

Once enrolled in the 2013 NFL Draft, Â Allen was selected in the third round by the San Diego Chargers.Â

In his first season with the Chargers, Allen was the leading NFL rookie with 71 receptions. He was voted four times NFL Rookie of the Week during the season. Allen was also voted by the fans Pepsi’s NEXT NFL Rookie of the Year. Congrats to him!!

SO CLOSE: The Chargers were able to qualify to the NFL playoffs and advance to the divisional round where they lost to the Denver Broncos. Allen was so close to his first Super Bowl, we’ll get-’em next time.Â

Fun Fact: Allen’s half-brother, Zach Maynard, was his quarterback all three years during his career at UC Berkeley.Â
