Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Los Angeles, California, John Cho never imagined his future to be that of an actor.

Majoring in English, Cho fell into acting at UC Berkeley, and his career blossomed from there. His first acting experience happened very unexpectedly. A student in his writing group who was directing a play had an actor who fell ill and he needed a backup. That very backup was Cho. Though Cho spoke only two lines, he gained an interest in acting and he went on to his first professional gig at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre as a part of “The Woman Warrior.”

After graduating, Cho moved back to Los Angeles and continued to pursue his acting career. It was not until Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle that the public began to recognize Cho. This comedy, raking in $38 million, sealed Cho’s career and helped him gain the opportunity to partake in various shows such as Ugly Betty and How I Met Your Mother. He also played a role in the popular film, Star Trek.

Not only does Cho represent Asian Americans in Hollywood, but he also represents UC Berkeley, and he sure does make us, Cal students, very proud! Go Bears!
