Camp Fire : How Kindness Shows Through Hardships

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

In the last month, the Camp Fire has been the deadliest fire in the history of California. While a lot of individuals have lost everything, there have been noteworthy acts of kindness and support for these families. Though the devastation of the fire has been covered in great detail in most media platforms, there has not been much recognition for the events below:

1. The volleyball team at Paradise Adventist Academy decided to play at the Northern California Division VI semifinals against Forest Lake Christian. Forest Lake sought out donations at the gate for the Paradise Adventist Academy and their families. Beyond that, Forest Lake provided brand new uniforms, knee pads, and socks for each player with their names printed on the uniforms. Each of the players at Paradise were also gifted $300 gift cards and a meal following the game.

2. Aaron Rodgers of the Green Day Packers is donating $1 million to those that are in need in Chico and Paradise. Here is the twitter video.

3. A San Diegan Business man is also donating $1 million to Paradise High School for students and staff. Even though he has never been to the area, Bob Wilson is planning to deliver $1000 check to each of the school’s 980 students and 105 employees. As he is quoted, “When I do something like this, let me tell you, there is absolute joy in giving”.

As this season rolls around, make sure to count your blessings but also recognize opportunities in which you can be a light to the world. Happy Holidays!

As a senior undergraduate, I seek out all opportunities that expand my horizons, with the aim of developing professionally and deepening my vision of how I can positively impact the world around me. While most of my career aims revolve around healthcare and medicine, I enjoy producing content that is informative, engaging, and motivating.  In the past few years, I have immersed myself in the health field through working at a private surgical clinic, refining my skills as a research assistant in both wet-lab and clinical settings, shadowing surgeons in a hospital abroad, serving different communities with health-oriented nonprofits, and currently, exploring the pharmaceutical industry through an internship in clinical operations.  Career goals aside, I place my whole mind and soul in everything that I pursue whether that be interacting with patients in hospice, consistently improving in fitness PR’s, tutoring children in piano, or engaging my creativity through the arts. Given all the individuals that I have yet to learn from and all the opportunities that I have yet to encounter in this journey, I recognize that I have much room and capacity for growth. Her Campus is a platform that challenges me to consistently engage with my community and to simultaneously cultivate self-expression.
