6 Memorable Charmed Episodes to Revisit Before the Reboot

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

As someone who considers themselves to be a Charmed superfan, I have to admit that I am not the biggest fan of the idea of rebooting the iconic Halliwell sisters. While you may be planning on tuning into the new series’ premiere tonight, the original series certainly remains a nostalgic trubute to the good ol’ days of the late 1990s. Telling the story of three rebellious sister-witches casually vanquishing demons and saving the world on a regular basis, Charmed is a series that empowers women and provides solid entertainment. Before you get introduced to a new “Power of Three”, take a look back to six of the best episodes from this iconic series!

  • “That ’70s Episode” – Season 1, Episode 17
    • Sending the sisters back to the ’70s was a high point in the series, as the episode focused on the family dynamics of their (adorable) younger selves and reuniting with their grandmother and mother who passed on. The episode is full of tender moments that make you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

  • “Just Harried” – Season 3, Episode 15
    • Piper and Leo’s love story is one of the greats. Starting off as an innocent crush on a handyman turned into a forbidden romance between a witch and her guardian. With all of the obstacles thrown at this couple, their wedding day was no different. Prue’s powers went berserk, which threw a wrench in Piper and Leo’s wedding plans and almost cancelled the celebration. However, with a little bit of magic, this episode ends with their sweet marriage.
  • “Charmed Again Parts 1 & 2” – Season 4, Episodes 21 & 22
    • With Prue’s unexpected departure from the show, I remember thinking there was no hope for the series. No one could replace Prue’s sassiness and strength. However, being introduced to Paige Haliwell, the fourth sister that they never knew they had, was a pleasant surprise. Instead of replacing Prue, Paige brought a new kind of vibrance to the show. Her quirkiness spiced up the series, making these episodes a must-watch.
  • “Forever Charmed” – Season 8, Episode 22
    • SO MUCH happened in this episode. Charmed really did go out with a bang because the series finale was chalk-full of magic, battles, romance, and family. The episode centers on Piper having to go back in time in order to prevent her sisters from dying in the future. And, don’t even get me started on the final ten minutes. Emotions were at an all-time high, and some [happy] tears may have even been shed. It’s a conclusion to a series that really does remind you about everything you still love about this classic show.

  • “Morality Bites” – Season 2, Episode 2
    • Time travel is a definite highlight in the series. In this episode, we get to see what the sisters’ lives would be like 10 years down the road, and the results were crazy. The trio’s powers grew and Piper even had a kid, but we also found out Phoebe was set to be burned at the stake for being a witch! This episode had some scary moments, but that’s what makes is a must-see.
  • “Something Wicca This Way Comes” – Season 1, Episode 1
    • Okay, so this one might be a bit obvious, but the OG episode is something that can never be surpassed. In this episode, you meet the trio of sisters, and you instantly remember why you initially fell in love with the series. Ending with the sisters’ very first demon vanquish, this epsiode in particular does a really great job of reminding you what’s at the show’s core: family. Of course, the sisters juggle action and magic and boyfriends, but their family comes before anything else. The Charmed Ones are sister until the end.

As you can see, the Charmed reboot has some BIG shoes to fill, and we will have to wait and see if it does so. Regardless, Charmed persists as an awesome series with some seriously memorable moments.  Whether you’re looking for humor, action, or just some awesome women living their best lives, the original series is a must-see for any fantasy fan or girl power enthusiast! Plus, with all eight seasons on Netflix, Charmed is begging to be binged!
