Is there anyone who doesn’t appreciate a well-executed fresh take on tradition? The dancing troupe Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, fondly known as Les Trocks, certainly knows how to pull these off with flair and immense style. This all-male dance troupe performs masterful retellings of ballet classics such as Swan Lake and La Esmeralda. What makes their performances so different, so enchanting, so invigorating? The flamboyantly feminine costumes, of course.
Formed in New York in 1974, Les Trocks has been a hit with audiences from the beginning, winning spectators over with the troupe’s unique performances and joyous execution. This dance troupe embraces the beautiful absurdity of men playing the female role in ballet for performances that enchant and endear. Their re-interpretations of famous ballets combine superb technique with healthy doses of sass and comedy for an experience no spectator will want to miss.
Over the last 40 years Les Trocks have enchanted audiences around the globe, matching unforgettable performances with endearing physical comedy. A combination of exaggerated roles and sublime technical execution their performances proves that their shows are meant to fully embrace the spirit of ballet. Both fans and complete newcomers are sure to have a blast with these dancers on stage. Having danced in hundreds of cities all around the world, Les Trocks have made their way back to Vancouver just in time to kick off 2017.
Les Ballets Trocadero de Monte Carlo will be in Vancouver this January, following the rampant success of their 2015 show, where they performed for sold-out houses after having been away from Vancouver for thirty years. Fans of the troupe will no doubt be delighted that they need not wait another three decades to partake in this singular experience once again.
