My Trip to Seattle: The City of Being Basic

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UBC chapter.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to travel to Seattle; the Emerald city of coffee, rain and fresh salmon. Seattle is home to many known organizations: Amazon, Microsoft, STARBUCKS, Boeing, Nordstrom, Costco and many more. Exciting, huh?

My highlights of my trip included:

1. Going to the Top of the Space Needle: The Space Needle is a 605 ft tall observation tower, better known as the icon and landmark of Seattle. The view from the top features the ocean, the mountains, and skyscrapers.

2. Eating some fresh Shrimps at the Pike Place Market: The Pike Place Market is a public market beside the Elliot Bay. You can walk around and try fresh fruit or buy exotic souvenirs. We ordered some Clam Chowder and Shrimps with garlic fries, which was the perfect treat for a rainy day.

3. I got to see the first Starbucks in the world. It had a waiting line of more than an hour, but it was still nice to snap a shot from the outside.

4. Last but not least: SHOPPING at the Premium Outlets. I got incredible sales and bought myself some really good coats for Vancouver’s rainy (or snowy?) days.

I encourage UBC Students to take a break from the overwhelming craziness that university is and visit Seattle. It is really close to Vancouver and it can be an exciting trip to plan with friends or family. Not to mention, the states has Panda Express and Target (YES!).
