Name: Mike Sinople
Hometown: Huntsville, Alabama
Year: Junior
Why he’s a campus celeb: Mike plays guitar for the bandFestival Expressions. I’ve seen them live and I can vouch, they’re amazing. But, enough with my gushing, let’s get to know Mike!

HC: How would you define Festival Expression’s musical style?
Mike: Our music style comes from the collaborative effort of all of us. Each member of the band has totally different background in music and all of us have different and similar tastes. The one thing thats common is that all of us like most styles of music and draw influence from most of those styles. When the group gets together and jams all of those influences come out in a nice mesh of us. And basically the more time we spend playing together the more our “style” comes out.

HC: What’s the craziest thing a fan has ever done at one of your shows?
Mike: For the most part our fans have been calm and really just like to listen and dance. I do remember one guy who would yell at Ran about how good his guitar solo sounded. That made us all laugh a good bit. He would say things like, “That boy gets in your marrow!!”

HC: How do you balance school and your music?
Mike: Its kind of hard to balance school and music but basically school comes first to a certain extent. music is a close second though. basically whenever i’m not studying I’m playing guitar.

HC: After college, do you guys plan on trying to make it “big”?
Mike: To “make it big” is an obvious reward for a band. It shows that people appreciate what you are doing. And being musical artists it would mean a lot for people to appreciate our art work. However if nothing “big” does happen we will still be playing because we just simply love to play.

HC: What is the band’s relationship like? If you guys had an issue, how would you solve it?
Mike: We are close as a band. the five of us hang out most days of the week and usually on the weekends. We were all friends before we committed to the band. In general we all love music and we all love playing music and when we play together it comes naturally and is easy. We work hard because we know we can get something out of it. We haven’t been faced with many real issues outside of the band. If one person has something that they need to take care of the rest of the band is pretty open and respectful. We all understand that there are a lot of responsibilities outside the band. We also know that we love to play together so whenever those responsibilities are taken care of you can always rely on that person to come back and play.
