Linked In Is the Social Media App You SHOULD Be Using

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UAB chapter.

“Facebook for adults”, “Boring”, “Was forced to make it in business class”… These are all things you may hear when people describe their LinkedIn account. But they’re missing out! Here are the top reasons why I think that Linked In is the the social media you SHOULD be using.

1. It’s important to network with your future employers.

Whether your circle of LinkedIn friends are local or global, creating constant dialogue with the people you hope to work with one day is always a good thing. This will put you one step above the rest when it comes time for you find a “big girl” job.

2. The opportunity to create a personal brand.

With so many social media sites showing off your less than perfect sides, it’s a great idea to have a LinkedIn to show off your professional skills. A company needs to know if you are capable of representing them if they hire you.

3.  The opportunity to build trust.

Building trust is important for anyone, but especially when you’re trying to get hired by a company. Your profile can act as a validator to future employers and make them more interested in you.

4. The potential of it popping up on Google.

Nowadays, employers will surf the internet to learn more information on potential candidates and this usually involves reviewing your social media accounts. LinkedIn counts towards this, so having a good profile set up is key.

5. The opportunity to collect endorsements and recommendations.

On LinkedIn, there is feature where your friends on the site can endorse the information on your page and even recommend you. This another great way to promote yourself to future employers.

So what are you waiting for? Create your profile today!
